The inaugural Coronado Island Film Festival “was nothing short of a home run,” with that high praise coming from the legendary film critic and author Leonard Maltin, who served as our Honorary Head Juror. The fun-filled program was made possible by a dedicated staff, led by Mary Sikes, CIFF’s President and CEO and Founding Executive Director Doug St. Denis, who set the vision for the Festival. Industry insiders and Board Members, Terry Curtin and Jim Gallagher, and Producing Executive Director Andy Friedenberg, joined us and pulled together a provocative selection of films, including studio features, animated films, documentaries, shorts and classics. We had a magnificent core of more than 230 volunteers, all coming back this year!

Once again, we invite filmmakers everywhere, from aspiring student to respected pro, to join us for a festival weekend like no other. “Movie People” first graced our shores more than a century ago, drawn to the still-legendary hospitality of the iconic Hotel del Coronado (our Festival Presenting Sponsor), built right on the sand in 1888. Our world-class beaches, perfect weather, and proximity to Hollywood have made it a favorite go-to spot for the stars since the days when Errol Flynn, Mary Pickford and Charlie Chaplin strolled the Avenue. That same avenue, with its unique shops, blooming gardens and alfresco dining, was recently named one of America’s five “Most Romantic Main Streets” by the National Trust for Historic Places.

The island of Coronado, located just across the bay from Downtown San Diego, has always been a favorite destination of visitors from across the country and around the world. Coronado is also home to the largest military installation on the West Coast of the United States — North Island Naval Air Station. And on Coronado’s “Silver Strand” elite Navy SEALs train year-round.  We invite you to be a part of our Coronado Island Film Festival experience!  We are looking for excellence in filmmaking: films that are smart and beautifully written, entertain us, surprise us, teach us, thrill us, inspire us, make us think, make us mad, make us laugh or make us cry. We’re partial to films that take the human spirit to a higher place. Categories include narrative features, short films (narrative, documentary and animated), and documentaries. We especially want to recognize and encourage talented students and emerging young filmmakers. Student films in all categories will be evaluated separately.

Awards

Don’t miss our awards ceremony on Sunday, November 12 at the Coronado Performing Arts Center-CoSA Main Stage Theatre.  It is sure to be an exciting event! All pass holders are invited.
